Day 50 Peters Mountain Shelter to Campsite 23.5 Miles

Day 50 Peters Mountain Shelter to Campsite 23.5 Miles

The beginning of the day today was pretty tough. For some reason we were both feeling a little drained today and I think it was because we had been walking on nothing but rocks since before Duncannon. We both thought we were done getting blisters, after all we had already hiked about 700 miles. We were wrong and over the next week we would both be getting many more blister because of the tough terrain. We also rain into other obstacles this morning, mainly snakes. Around 9:00 we came to the top of a mountain where it was impossible to stand up straight because it was all slanted rocks. As we were having difficulty walking, Mike noticed 2 copperhead snakes in the middle of our path. So we did what we always did, waited for a minute to see if they would move and when they didn't we tried to go around them to the right. Only once we did that, we noticed 2 more rattlesnakes and another copperhead blocking that way. After we waited a few minutes and tried not to fall off the mountain, we decided our only option was to just run right through the path in between our worst nightmare. So we did just that and it was terrifying, but we made it.

After all that excitement and seeing a few more snakes after those 5, we were not in the best of moods. We joking told each other that we could really use some trail magic to lift our spirits as we walked up to the first road of the day. Well our prayers were answered and the most amazing trail magic we have experienced yet waited for us at that road. Two very nice people and their grandson had seen a documentary on trail angels and decided that they wanted to be apart of it. They had brought the works with them, most of which they had grown themselves. They had salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, chicken, onions, mushrooms, as well as hot dogs, baked beans, water, sodas and blueberries and yogurt for desert. It was amazing and we waited out the heat with them. It was just the thing we needed to lift our spirits. Thanks again Maun and Ten Bears, ya'll are amazing people.
