Day 45-Birch Run Shelter-20.8 Miles

Day 45-Birch Run Shelter-20.8 Miles

Today was a pretty sweet day. We hit the trail at a decent hour and made it the 11 miles to Caledonia State Park right around lunch time. We were in luck, because a church was having a cookout and providing trail magic. They had the full spread of burgers, dogs, corn and tons of fruit. After we pigged out for a little while, we went to the pool which was also right in the park. We wanted to kill some hours because Cade and Riley had not been night hiking(also known as moon blazing) yet and they only had a couple days left on the trail. The public pool was the perfect place to kill some time and get a clean machine. We ended up leaving the park around 6:00pm and began our night hike. Before we had gone 2 miles a downpour started. Luckily, there are tons of shelters on this part of the trail so we stopped at the first one and ate dinner and let the rain calm down some. Which it did not really do. We were determined to moon blaze though and so we pushed on in the rain. It poured on us for a few hours until we finally made it to the shelter around midnight. Great day!
