Day 48 Boiling Springs to Duncannon to the Doyle 25.6 Miles

Day 48 Boiling Springs to Duncannon to the Doyle 25.6 Miles

           Today was a sad day as it would be our last day with Cade and Riley. They would be returning home to Kansas. Cade and Riley were hiking the Appalachian Trail for a purpose. They were raising money for Active Water. Active Water is a fundraising organization that's main purpose is to raise money to help build drinking wells where they are needed in Africa. Here is their mission;

Our Mission...
In order to win the battle against infectious diseases that plague the developing world, we inform individuals and groups of the greatest challenge our world faces, the need for safe drinking water. We cultivate a greater understanding of how lacking accessible clean water threatens the very core of individuals, leading not only to the demise of their health, but also exhausting their time, energy, and financial potential. We fulfill our mission by creating a vocal platform built from athletic quests and/or grassroots campaigns that attract great interest and media exposure. We then convert that attention into inspiring and equipping others to give of their resources, commitment, and voice to bring clean water projects to where ever needed.
To donate to their cause you can visit their webpages at:

They are doing a great thing for the world and it is very admirable they are spending their summer this way. Please help them reach their goal and donate.

            Now back to this day. Our original plan was to go 14.3 miles to Darlington Shelter. We didn't hit the trail until around 12:30 so this seemed like a good plan. However, the terrain was so flat that we blew through those miles in no time. We decided to push on to the next shelter which was another 7.3 miles. Once we got there, we figured we were only 4 more miles from the town of Duncannon so we decided to push on to there. It was a rocky climb, as we were starting to hit the worse parts of Pennsylvania we had been hearing about. Around 10:30 we finally made it Duncannon and checked into the famous Doyle Inn. This place looked like an old crack den and was not what we were expecting at all. We had in our heads that we would be staying in a motel which is why we pushed through the night to make it here. We were wrong. We would have been better off staying in the woods, oh well we will know better next time.
Great getting to know you guys, good luck with Active Water
