Day 37-Bears Den Hostel 18.3 Miles-Starting the Roller Coaster
We got a good jump on the day and left Dicks Dome shelter by 7:45am because we were hitting something called the roller coaster today. The roller coaster is 13.5 miles of tightly packed ascents and descents which is supposed to be very difficult but we didn't have too much trouble with it and found that it was more built up as being hard than it actually was. After a few hours on the trail, as usual, Rocky began scheming for a way we could sleep in a hostel tonight which I never really object to. He saw in our books that there was a little place named Bears Den Hostel that was only 0.2 miles off the trail and very cheap so I happily said yes, especially because it looked like rain. We stayed at the hostel and were lucky because a group of 1978 thru-hikers were having a reunion there and fed us to the brim with BBQ and other tasteeee foods. Great night!
